About the Opportunity

We are currently looking for an Operations Manager, Environmental Consulting to join our team in the Northern Territories. Although this role requires you to travel to the Yukon, Nunavut, the Northwest Territories and Alberta, we offer residence flexibility in Yellowknife (relocation allowance available) or Leduc, AB.

Reporting to the General Manager of Environmental Consulting, you will be responsible for managing key client environmental projects, including spill response, site assessment and remediation. The Environmental Consulting Project Manager is responsible for the oversight of Project Managers, including monitoring objective and target achievements along with providing technical and regulatory guidance. 

Your essential responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinating and completing projects within budget and scope
  • Overseeing all aspects of projects, including deadlines, responsibility assignments, technical reporting, and project progress
  • Reporting of all technical aspects of project work completed, in a manner which meets client and regulatory requirements
  • Managing operations at soil treatment facilities, including soil/snow/water acceptance, treatment campaigns, confirmatory sampling, compliance monitoring, annual reporting, and budget tracking
  • Providing technical and regulatory guidance to Project Managers
  • Reviewing and approving third-party invoices and generating invoices for clients
  • Developing accurate cost estimates for large and medium-sized projects
  • Monitoring staff utility rates (billable vs. non-billable).
  • Communicating with clients to ensure they understand the full capabilities of each facility and submitting pricing and acceptance criteria information.
  • Scheduling logistics, personnel, and subcontractors for environmental projects
  • Supervising work crews, ensuring overall site safety, and following KBL protocols and operating procedures
  • Finding and bidding on new environmental project opportunities, completing estimates, budgets, and work plans to provide to clients, and obtaining third-party quotes for services required for project completion
  • Leading meetings with Project Managers and Field Staff to discuss project needs, challenges, and successes, and mentoring and training direct reports

About You 

To qualify, you must have a university degree or college diploma in Environmental Sciences or a similar field, and at least 10 years of experience in Project Management, Environmental Consulting, and leading and developing teams. A valid driver's license is also required for this role.

The following will be critical to successfully performing this role:

  • Working knowledge of budgets, department financials, and reporting
  • Expertise in environmental site assessment and remediation, including sampling of soil, water and air, interpretation of results, and reporting
  • Adaptable and adept at working without supervision, solving problems, and adapting to change
  • Ability to achieve project objectives and deliverables within time and budget constraints
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral; ability to work with regulators, first nations representatives, and stakeholders
  • Professional certifications such as P.Eng, P.Ag, RT.Ag, CET, PMP, EP
  • Environmental consulting experience and ability to solve problems in the field
  • First Aid training (KBL will provide training)
  • WHIMIS/TDG certification (KBL will provide training)
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office and other related software
  • Experience with RKI Eagle 2 (or similar) Vapour Screeners, Trimble GeoXH GPS, and Low Flow Groundwater Sampling Equipment (peristaltic pumps, bladder pumps).
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Willing to travel to the Yukon, Nunavut, the Northwest Territories and Alberta
